The Fante people are an ethnic group located in the Central and Western regions of Ghana, known for their rich cultural heritage, traditional beliefs, customs, and festivals. They have a strong tradition of storytelling, music, and dance. One of the most important cultural practices of the Fante people is their system of chieftaincy, with several traditional states, each with its own paramount chief. The chiefs are highly respected and play a vital role in maintaining the social order and unity of the Fante people.

The Fetu Afahye Festival is one of the most important festivals celebrated by the Fante people. It is an annual celebration held in the Central Region of Ghana in the first week of September, and it is a time for the Fante people to give thanks to their ancestors for a bountiful harvest and to ask for blessings for the coming year.

The festival is a hunting ritual in which two groups of young men compete to capture the first antelope of the season. The winning team presents the antelope to the local chief as a symbol of their hunting prowess and to signify the beginning of the hunting season. The festival typically begins with a procession of chiefs and their retinues, who parade through the streets of the town or village where the festival is being held, dressed in traditional regalia and accompanied by drummers and dancers.

One of the highlights of the Fetu Afahye Festival is the offering of food and drink to the ancestors, which is prepared by the priests and priestesses of the community. This food is believed to be a symbol of the community's gratitude for the abundance of the harvest, and it is then presented to the ancestors at the shrine, where it is left for a period of time before being shared amongst the people. Another important feature of the festival is the traditional purification ceremony, which involves the sprinkling of water and the burning of incense, and it is believed to help protect the community from harm.

The Fetu Afahye Festival is also a time for the Fante people to showcase their cultural heritage through music, dance, and drama performances. The festival attracts many visitors from Ghana and around the world, and it provides an opportunity for the Fante people to share their culture and traditions with others. It is presided over by a council of traditional priests, both male and female, who are responsible for organizing and overseeing the various rituals and ceremonies that take place during the festival.
